Asia's key solar event: Connect with 1000+ executives and develop bankable solar PV projects

Solar energy in Asia has been developing faster than anywhere else in the world, however, the challenge to obtain access to capital remains. In thw 2018 event, by joining forces with the Asia Clean Energy Summit, we aimed to bring together all investors, financiers, solar developers, IPPs, EPCs and other solar stakeholders to discuss bankable PV projects in the region.  

For the Unlocking Solar Capital & Financial Summit, there were 200+ solar energy delegates present in our sessions, however, there was the opportunity to network with 1000+ solar and clean energy executives in Asia during the networking sessions. In addition to the conference held on November 1st-2nd, this fall there was the opportunity to attend the clean energy exposition held from October 31st - November 1st which will add an additional 3000+ visitors to network with. All together making a total of 4000+ solar & clean energy professionals present under one enormous roof.

Alex Perera is Deputy Director of WRI's Energy Program. Joining WRI in 2007, Alex has over 20 years of experience in energy policy, finance, and corporate energy strategy. Prior to joining WRI, he helped found a company called Bigbelly Solar, a renewable energy company with a mission of developing innovative new solar energy products that are helping reduce transportation related emissions. Alex has worked at the Natural Resources Defense Council, where he participated on New York Governor Pataki's Greenhouse Gas Task Force. He also served on two advisory committees that invested in over $7 million in renewable energy R&D projects in New York. Alex was a Financial Analyst at the investment bank Bear, Stearns and Co. Inc. where he helped to structure over $1 billion in municipal financing in the utility sector. He has served as the Program Director for the New York Energy Efficiency Council, an organization that represented Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) in New York State electric deregulation proceedings.

Alex has an MBA from F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College, and a BA from Boston University in Environmental Science, Economics, and French. He has written and co-authored numerous publications on corporate strategy and renewable energy. He is a watercolor painter and lives in Bethesda, MD with his wife and two children.

Liam Salter is Founder and CEO at RESET Carbon, Ltd. RESET’s work focuses on developing and implementing commercially driven energy, carbon and environmental management solutions for Asian and international corporate clients. The company is increasingly regarded as a leading practitioner in the emerging field of supply chain sustainability solutions, working with sectors such as apparel, consumer retail, electronics, and food and beverages to reduce their supply chain footprint.

Previously Liam was the Director of WWF International’s Asia-Pacific Climate Programme, where he built and managed a ten-country team. At WWF, Liam also co-led the design and establishment of the Gold Standard Foundation, which is now a leading certification system for project level carbon offsets and other environmental and social attributes.

Shailesh is Technical Manager, Renewable Energy, CDP, working on the RE100 campaign in India. He has extensive work experience in environment management, sustainability and renewable energy advisory services. As a part of his renewable energy work, Shailesh worked in the areas of registration of renewable energy projects under REC mechanism, third party sale of renewable energy through open access and coordination of rooftop solar projects under Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model. He has worked across industrial sectors such as solar, wind, airports, real estate, steel, industrial waste management, automotive and infrastructure.

Shailesh holds master’s in Environment Management from the Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, India and a Bachelor of Science in Life Science from Institute of Science, Nagpur, India.

Rasmus has been working in the field of environmental management in the private sector for the past two decades. Before moving to act renewable, Rasmus spent nearly a decade working for multinational companies including Vestas A/S and LEGO®, responsible for development and execution of their renewable energy and carbon reduction programs. At the LEGO® Group, Rasmus executed a corporate strategy using onsite and offsite renewable solutions to successfully achieve 100% renewables energy in 2017.

Geoffrey Tan is a Managing Director at Overseas Private Investment Corporation(OPIC), and is OPIC’s Asia-Pacific regional representative based in Thailand. Mr. Tan has worked in emerging markets financing for over 20 years.

Since joining OPIC in 2003, he has worked primarily on power, infrastructure and access to finance. These projects have been across Latin America, the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia.

Prior to OPIC Mr. Tan worked for the Chase Manhattan Bank (now JPMorgan Chase)in New York, Singapore and Hong Kong focusing on project and structured finance,and for Emerging Markets Partnership in Singapore on private equity infrastructure investments.

Mr. Tan is a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Virginia, and also attended the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium.

Assaad W. Razzouk is a Lebanese-British clean energy entrepreneur, investor and commentator. He is Group Chief Executive and Co-Founder of Sindicatum Sustainable Resources, a global clean energy company headquartered in Singapore; the Chairman of the Board of the Association for Sustainable and Responsible Investment in Asia (ASrIA); a Board member of the Climate Markets & Investment Association (CMIA); and a commentator on climate change, natural capital and clean energy.

Ruth P Briones is a climate change engineer and sustainability regulatory expert. Under her direct supervision and leadership, was the development of a total capacity of 1400.0MW of renewable energy projects in the Philippines and Asia. 1200.0MW of which are solar energy and 200.0 MW waste-to-energy and biomass projects. Currently, she is negotiating for PPP Waste-to-Energy projects in Indonesia and primary cities in the Philippines. This year (2018), she has started the development of agro-Solar PV - community based and micro-grid solar PV projects in the Philippines.
In 2015, she was declared as one of the 40 Global Sustainability Superstars during the 2015 World's Sustainability Congress in Mauritius in December, and was conferred the "sustainability Leadership Award" in that Congress. Subsequently, she was listed and presented as one of the most impactful green leaders, globally, during the 2016 World CSR Congress in Mumbai, India. In 2017, she was presented the Sustainability Leadership Excellence Award by the international Management Excellence Council.
After working with the Philippine Government for 25 years and with the Asian Development Bank, she was involved with several entities focused on climate change mitigation, sustainable environment, renewable energy development, policy formulation and research. She has also organized and created three companies focused on sustainability: Greenergy Solutions Inc, Living Projects for People Philippines and Firmgreen Phils Inc.
Ruth is one of the authors of the Berkshire Encyclopedia of Sustainability Volume VII- Public-Private Partnerships which was published in 2014. She also authored the framework of the Philippines' Zero Waste Agenda as scheme for circular economy and the sustainable community-based renewable energy programme for the ASEAN region.

Csilla KOHALMI-MONFILS EVP Strategy, New Business and Digital ENGIE Asia-Pacific – Thailand Csilla KOHALMI-MONFILS is the Head of Strategy, New Business and Digital at ENGIE Asia-Pacific. Before joining ENGIE in 2011 as Strategic Projects Director, Csilla held senior functions at various energy companies in Hungary, including MOL Group. Csilla started her career with Unilever where she headed up business development projects in Europe and Latin America. Later, at the Boston Consulting Group, she developed new business opportunities and managed change projects for corporate clients across the world. Csilla holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Bioengineering from the Technical University of Budapest (Master thesis in Molecular Biology at CNRS—Institut Jacques Monod in Paris).
