Borja Gutierrez Leads the Emerging Markets and Finance Team at Solarplaza, with a global portfolio of events in Latin America, Africa and Asia. The core focus of all the team’s efforts is bridging the funding gap for PV projects by connecting investors and financiers to developers with bankable PV projects.
Prior to working with Solarplaza Borja spent 9 years in China focusing on managing a variety of sustainability related projects in areas including microfinance, education and healthcare throughout the Greater China region. He also held the position of Team Lead in Microsoft focusing on software localization testing for Windows 7.
Borja holds a Master Degree in International Development Studies from the University of Sydney and speaks several languages including Spanish, Mandarin, Dutch, French and English.

Goh Chee Kiong is an Executive Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), responsible for leading the development of the Cleantech industry since 2003. The Cleantech industry has been identified as a key economic growth area for Singapore, and includes clean energy, environment and water. He took on the additional role as Executive Director, Building & Infrastructure Solutions since 2012. He is actively involved in shaping many national Cleantech and Sustainability initiatives spanning related government agencies. For instance, he leads the industry development efforts within the inter-agency Energy Innovation Programme Office (EIPO) and Environment & Water Industry Programme Office (EWI).

THOMAS REINDL /// DEPUTY CEO - SERIS
Dr. Thomas REINDL is the Deputy CEO of the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) and a Principal Research Fellow (equivalent to Associate Professor) at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
He started with photovoltaics (PV) in 1992 at the SIEMENS Corporate R&D Labs and obtained his Ph.D. in Natural Science from the University of Regensburg, Germany in 1996. He was then selected for a German government scholarship in the P.R. China working as Foreign Expert with China’s largest solar cell and module manufacturer at that time.
From 1998-2006, he held several management positions at SIEMENS Solar Asia and SIEMENS Corporate HQ. In 2006, he joined ILIOTEC, one of the leading German PV systems integration companies as Chief Operating Officer in charge of technology and engineering, and later headed their project venture as Managing Director.
Dr. Reindl holds a Master in Chemistry, a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences and an MBA from INSEAD, all awarded with the highest honours.

He has 27 years of asset management and investment banking experience in the region, and has specialized in renewable energy investments for the last 10 years. He is currently a member of both the Asian Investor Group on Climate Change and the Energy & Infrastructure Council for EMPEA. Andrew holds an MBA in Finance from Leicester University and a PGCert in Climate Change and Sustainable Development from De Montfort University.

Harsha Vardhan has been associated with the fashion industry for more than 17 years. He started his career with responsibilities related to textile sourcing and quality, and gradually moved towards an environmental profile. Harsha’s experience in the sustainability field includes various environment related topics within the textile supply chain, sustainable material development and sourcing, cleaner production techniques and sustainable innovation.
Harsha is currently working at H&M as the Global Environment Manager for Production, based in Hong Kong. As part of this responsibility, he works closely with different business functions, supply chains in various production countries, as well as, external stakeholders within and outside the fashion industry.
Harsha has a Bachelor’s degree in Textile Technology from India and holds a Master of Science in Environment Management and Policy from Lund University, Sweden.

Samuel Kwong is responsible for matters relating to sustainability including environmental protection, workplace conditions, and community investment & partnership initiatives in Swire. He joined Swire in 2005 to establish the sustainability team in Swire Beverages, a strategy bottling partner of The Coca-Cola Company, and represented Swire on the Coca-Cola Environment & Safety Council. He is now leading Swire's committees and working groups in developing group strategies and facilitating best practice sharing on various sustainability issues including energy efficiency, environment, occupational safety and supply chain sustainability. Mr Kwong is active in the professional arena and is currently the Vice Chairman of the South China Environmental and Safety Management Association and the Chairman of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management Hong Kong.
Prior to joining Swire, Mr Kwong has been with the railway company in developing the West Rail and Kowloon South Link and with the consultancy specializing in environmental management system implementation and auditing. He is a Principal Environmental Auditor and a Lead EMS Auditor under the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, Chartered Engineer under the Engineering Society UK, Chartered Water and Environment Manager and a Certified Monitoring and Verification Professional under the Association of Energy Engineers.

Gaurav is Dalberg’s Regional Director for Asia and also leads the firm’s energy practice. He founded Dalberg’s first office in Asia in Mumbai, where he is currently based. Gaurav works on a wide-ranging set of issues that include energy access, financial inclusion, access to education, and inclusive business strategies. He currently serves two of the world’s largest foundations on their measurement, evaluation, and learning activities and advises a Fortune 100 energy company on sustainable energy opportunities.
Outside of Dalberg, Gaurav has been a founding partner in a string of social ventures including two eco-resorts, a sustainable tourism online platform, an organic tea plantation, and an eco-friendly fair trade fashion label. Previously, he led an Indian environmental NGO on climate change and also helped establish a leading public policy think-tank on Australian aboriginal issues.
Prior to Dalberg, Gaurav was a Project Leader with the Boston Consulting Group in Sydney and London. Prior to joining GOGLA, Laura worked at Arc Finance, where she oversaw staff training and consumer education efforts related to consumer financing for energy products and services, and led Arc Finance’s conferences and workshops on innovations in financing off-grid clean energy. Shazia is an environmental lawyer and an expert in off-grid clean energy solutions. She began her career as a consultant with the World Bank, working with the Global Environment Facility and Africa Energy. She co-founded EcoEnergy with Jeremy Higgs as a way to distribute last-mile energy services in Pakistan to the 70 million living off-grid.
Shazia was a delegate to the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit hosted by U.S. President Barack Obama, which showcased 600 inspiring entrepreneurs and investors from around the world and using entrepreneurship to address some of the most intractable global challenges. Shazia was also a two-time finalist for the prestigious C3E Awards in both 2015 and 2016. Led by Stanford, MIT and a 24 government Clean Energy Ministerial, the award recognizes the leadership and achievement of mid-level career women who have worked for the advancement of clean energy. Shazia was a panelist at the United Nations Sustainable Energy For All Conference, speaking on the topic of “Opportunities for Investment in Decentralized Clean Energy Solutions” in 2015. Shazia was designated a National Geographic Society Explorer in 2015, when the organization won National Geographic’s Great Energy Challenge in 2014 for developing a promising, global energy solution as a response to climate change, energy resource constraints and environmental limitations. Shazia was selected as one of 19 social entrepreneurs worldwide to participate in a business accelerator program supported by the Skoll Foundation called the Global Social Benefit Incubator.
Shazia graduated with a J.D. from Vermont Law School, the nation’s premier environmental law program with a concentration in Energy. She received a B.A. from Smith College. She is a member of the UN Foundation’s Energy Practitioner’s Network. Shazia is based in Washington, D.C. allowing her to confer regularly with colleagues from the World Bank, USAID and the United Nations Foundation as well as other international solar energy initiatives, which helps keep EcoEnergy stay current on global best practices.

Karl Skare is the Director of New Business Initiatives at d.light design. His responsibilities include business and product development, fundraising, and strategic planning. “I believe that distributed solar in the developing world has the potential to leapfrog centralized generation powered by fossil fuels,” he says, “similar to how cell phones leapfrogged landlines in the same markets.” Currently he works on on technology-enabled financing solutions for small scale solar home systems. His customers do not have access to electricity and are living on less than $2 USD per day. “Our customers can now redirect the money that they were spending on kerosene, phone charging, and disposable batteries towards the ownership of a productive asset,” says Karl. “They can save hundreds of dollars once they have paid off the system.”
Karl was first drawn to energy access while doing a project for the solar lantern manufacturer Greenlight Planet in a design class at Stanford. Tasked with designing an innovative distribution model for solar lanterns in India, he conducted interviews with industry players, potential customers, and experts in off-grid energy access. “I realized just how challenging distribution can be in remote rural locations,” he says. “That experience made me realize that this was a challenge that I could wake up every day excited to tackle.

He has been based in Vietnam and India managing AES’ business developments and deal closures.
In the earlier part of his career Prabaljit was at PWC, and more recently at Castlerock Consulting based in Singapore, where he provided project implementation support to government, state-owned & private enterprises and development financial institutions in the infrastructure space in Asia and the Pacific region. Alix Burrell started her career with Citibank in London as a financial analyst for project financings in the oil and gas sector, covering Europe and the Middle East. In the Philippines, she has been involved in lead lending roles to projects in the water, power and mining sectors.
In 2009, Alix was Head of Loan Syndicate for Structured Finance in Asia Pacific to support underwritings and debt distribution for large structured financings arranged by the specialised lending teams within BNP Paribas’ Investment Bank.
Alix joined Asian Development Bank in 2015 and is a Principal Investment Specialist in the Private Sector Operations Department.

Jae has worked on transactions throughout Asia-Pacific, South America and Africa. In addition, Jae has spent periods on secondment in NAB’s Global Treasury Department in Melbourne and Standard Chartered’s Wholesale Banking Group in Hong Kong.

Subrata Barman works with the Advisory practice of IFC Asia-Pacific in the areas of energy and resource efficiency. He is currently leading IFC’s Pacific Energy program that aims to promote access and adoption of renewables in off-grid and on-grid markets. He has been with IFC for the past 10 years and has led the design and implementation of numerous projects in the infrastructure sector, especially in the areas of energy, water & electronic waste. He was an Expert Member of the team that formulated the National Voluntary Guidelines for Responsible Business in India, Member of the International Solid Waste Association and has been invited to contribute in industry associations such as CII & FICCI.
Prior to joining IFC, Subrata worked with the management consulting practice of KPMG and PwC, where he was responsible for managing projects in the infrastructure and energy sectors. Subrata is a petroleum engineer from ISM Dhanbad and a post graduate in business management from IIM Ahmedabad.

Sebastian is a 2013 Stanford Ignite Fellow from Stanford Graduate School of Business and holds a PhD from Aalborg University (Denmark) where he wrote his thesis on the role of energy in development processes, energy poverty and technical innovations. He published a book and multiple peer reviewed journal articles on the topic of decentralized electrification in the Global South.
Since 2014, Sebastian has been working in Bangladesh as the CEO and co-founder of ME SOLshare Ltd. He is further Assistant Professor in the MBA program at North South University (NSU) in Dhaka. Previously, he has been working on the trading floor at Commerzbank in Frankfurt, at the microfinance institution ProCredit in El Salvador, at Planet Finance in India and several years at the consultancy firm MicroEnergy International around the globe.
Sebastian further received an executive training on strategic leadership for microfinance from Harvard Business School. He speaks English, German and Spanish fluently and improves his Bangla day-by-day.

Geoffrey Tan is a Managing Director at Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), and is OPIC’s Asia-Pacific regional representative based in Bangkok, Thailand.
Mr. Tan has worked in emerging markets infrastructure financing for over 19 years. Since joining OPIC in 2003, he has worked primarily on power, renewable energy, water, toll roads and port projects, but has also diversified into future flow and financial institutions transactions. These projects have been across Latin America, the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia. He has been involved in innovative and groundbreaking deals requiring creative project and long term debt structuring solutions in unique and challenging environments.
Prior to OPIC Mr. Tan worked for the Chase Manhattan Bank (now JPMorgan Chase) in New York, Singapore and Hong Kong focusing on project and structured finance, and for Emerging Markets Partnership in Singapore focusing on private equity infrastructure investments. His work with them in the Americas and Asia included experience in the power, oil & gas, mining, telecommunications, transportation, pulp & paper, and petrochemical sectors.
Mr. Tan is a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Virginia, and also attended the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium.

Jerome Pirouz joined TCX in 2011 and is responsible for transaction structuring, origination and product engineering. From 2009-2011, Jerome worked as a Senior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager in Brussels and Zurich where he was in charge of Investment Grade and High Yield Portfolios. In 2008, Jerome was a trader at UBS, London where he built the Credit Option business and traded Credit Derivatives Indices (Itraxx) on the credit flow desk. Between 2003 and 2007 he was a credit derivatives trader at Fortis Bank, Brussels where he ran different credit strategies. End of 2007 he set up the credit derivatives platform to trade LCDS at Fortis Securities LLC in New York for the leveraged loan desk. From 2009 to 2013 he was leading DEG's Business Origination and Portfolio Management in Africa with investments of some US$ 1,5 billion. Before 2009 he set up DEG's syndication unit.
